The trial version has numerous problems with Internet connectivity. No ability to connect to the forum or to browse and install plug-ins, etc. The error message (when there is one) is that either the server has timed out or an “Inactivity time out” or “Too much time has passed without sending any data for document”.
For example, I click Help > User Guide and enter a search term. Google returns relevant results but none of the Google-supplied links will open. There is no error message. What’s worse is that I am unable to copy anything from within the User Guide window (there is no context menu and Ctrl+C fails), so I can’t simply copy a search result link and paste it into a browser. This is incredibly frustrating.
Another example: I choose Help > Community > Support Forums. The result is this “503” message: “Service Temporarily Unavailable. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.” But guess what, the real problem is that the URL used by Tools is wrong: it’s http://www.html-kit.com/forums/ instead of https://support.htmlkit.com/forums/. That means this “server issue” has existed for several years!
A similar problem exists with Help > References > Online References, which returns a “400” error page when a search is executed (again due to Tools using the wrong URL).
Another example: I choose Tools > Install Plugins. The window opens with no content other than three dots in the upper left corner. Yet another “server issue”?
And another: some dialogs (like Help > About) close after flashing for less than a second.
These and other problems tell me that maintenance on the trial version has been badly neglected for years. This is not a good sign for prospective customers. I have never encountered a Windows application with so many connectivity problems. It’s hard to imagine why these issues have not been fixed and, until they are in both versions, I cannot imagine paying for Tools. This application is too hard to learn without direct access to Tools help.
If it matters, I’m running Windows 7 Home (32-bit)
